Boarhounds without Franklin Curdle III again

Ruth Fairbanks, features

Franklin Curdle III QB
Boarhounds

Franklin Curdle III will miss the rest of the season with an Achilles. He reads Fragile on the card, which is exactly the bet everyone made.

Across nine seasons: 18,619 yards from scrimmage, 310 touchdowns, 146 games. His best was 2,646. This is not that, yet. He has done it in three buildings.

He is thirty-one, out of Oakland, California. Ask anybody: he is the first man in the building most mornings. He was drafted late, on the strength of one game nobody else watched. Before any of it he worked nights at a rendering plant to pay for a truck he never bought.

Boarhounds, 5-3, and nine weeks gone. Oscar Kearse is in year five of it. He is out of contract after this.

Curdle III collects vinyl and is insufferable about it.

This feature ran in the paper in week 9 of 1985. The rest of the season is there too.
