Grackles without Nathaniel Passwater again

P.J. Thorne, injury desk

Nathaniel Passwater QB
Grackles

Nathaniel Passwater will miss the rest of the season with a knee. The backup inherits the job for now.

Across seven seasons: 9,028 yards from scrimmage, 135 touchdowns, seventy-eight games. There was a 2,933-yard year in there. This is not it.

He is twenty-eight, out of Ojo Caliente, New Mexico. Around the building he is the one the young players actually ask. The route here: a first-round pick out of Saint Ambrose, and everybody saw it coming.

Grackles are 1-1 through two weeks. Quinton Underhill is in year six of it.

He keeps his father's work gloves in his locker, and always has.

This feature ran in the paper in week 2 of 1983. The rest of the season is there too.
