The old man can still play

Ruth Fairbanks, features

Trent Beetlestone QB
Marauders

There is a version of this where Trent Beetlestone retired two years ago. Instead he is 37 and averaging 20.3. He reads Normal, which makes the mileage harder to explain, not easier.

11,400 yards over six seasons. 155 touchdowns. Ninety-two games. His best was 2,335. This is not that, yet. He has done it in three buildings.

He is from Memphis, Tennessee. He has never been described as easy to coach. He was a first-round pick out of Fort Ridley, and everybody saw it coming.

Marauders, 3-6, and ten weeks gone. Emmett Quarles is in year five of it. The contract runs out in the spring.

One more thing: he reads on the team plane, actual books, which his teammates find hilarious.
