Najee Fenwick carried twenty-one times at the Prospectors, as many as his previous eight games combined, and gained twenty-three yards. He scored both of the Mustaches' touchdowns, on fourth-and-two from the two and fourth-and-one from the one, in a 20-19 win. Tevin Halloran, whose 1,311 rushing yards are fifth in the league, carried it eight times.
No starting back carries a lower power grade than Fenwick, and nobody had asked until this week: thirty-three attempts in fifteen games, a fifth-round pick on $0.9 million. Halloran was a first-round pick, ran it 317 times last season, and plays for $1.4 million that ends in the spring. The chart now reads Fenwick, Halloran, Ironside; the projection for the Nightshift still reads Halloran 16.8, Fenwick 3.3.
Asked about eight, Halloran called it a quarterback's number. Then, when the room had thinned: “Thirteen hundred yards. That's on paper somewhere.”
Fenwick, asked about the two scores, looked at the questioner until somebody else asked a different question.
In week nine I called this depth chart the biggest thing to happen to the Mustaches all year. It has happened again, from lower down. They have clinched, so week eighteen at the Nightshift settles nothing but the ball, and it goes to Fenwick, more than Halloran, or I have been wrong in print for the first time.
