Jamarcus Iverson leads the rushing title by 101 yards, 1,325 to Devon Larue's 1,224, and he has needed thirty-six more carries to hold it. The rate reads the other way: 5.8 a carry for Larue, 5.4 for the leader. In week eight Iverson posted his own number — 885 yards, 5.9 a carry — and since he posted it he is running at 4.5, while Larue has outgained him 279 to 192 over the last fortnight. Five games are left for each of them. Iverson has the volume. The trend and the rate belong to Larue, and the rate is the thing I trust: Larue finishes ahead of him, and it is decided in week eighteen.
