The Achilles took something from Stiff Armstrong

Marlene Ostrowski, column

Stiff Armstrong RB
Ironmen

Stiff Armstrong is back from the Achilles but has lost a step, and his durability grade has fallen to Fragile. He lost 10.8 points of ability and will not get them back. Somebody will still draft him on name recognition.

2,619 yards over three seasons. Twenty-one touchdowns. Forty-five games. There was a 1,076-yard year in there. This is not it.

Twenty-four, and Miami, Florida before that. He talks constantly and means about half of it. Nobody planned any of it. He was drafted late, on the strength of one game nobody else watched.

The club is 8-9. Knuckles Yelverton is in year four of it.

One more thing: he is the last man off the field, every week, without exception.

This feature ran in the paper in week 18 of 1981. The rest of the season is there too.
