Smelters lose Elmo Vermicelli to a meniscus

Ruth Fairbanks, features

Elmo Vermicelli QB
Smelters

There is no good week for this. Elmo Vermicelli gets the rest of the season on the shelf with a meniscus. It is the second meniscus of his career.

Across twelve seasons: 18,750 yards from scrimmage, 285 touchdowns, 175 games. There was a 2,907-yard year in there. This is not it. Three clubs have had him.

He is thirty-four, out of Pinch, West Virginia. Around the building he is unfailingly polite and completely unknowable. Nobody planned any of it. He was drafted late, on the strength of one game nobody else watched.

Smelters, 6-4-1, and twelve weeks gone. Damon Renfrow is in year four of it. There is one year left on the deal.

Keeps his father's work gloves in his locker.

This feature ran in the paper in week 12 of 2016. The rest of the season is there too.
