The long way round: Simeon Winterbottom goes for 102

Wendell Sowerbutts, notebook

Simeon Winterbottom QB
Snowplows

102 yards from a man who was converted from quarterback, which he was not good enough at. The scouting industry declines to comment. Out of Belmont Tech, which sends one of these to the league about once a decade. It counts the same as anybody else's.

He has 2,270 yards from scrimmage in thirteen seasons, and twenty-six touchdowns. This is the best of them.

Thirty-eight, and Gdansk, Poland before that. He is unfailingly polite and completely unknowable.

Snowplows are 6-6 through thirteen weeks. Barney Grit is in year nine of it. The contract runs out in the spring.

Winterbottom eats the same breakfast every game day and will not discuss it.
