Dredgers lose Yancy Ellington to a knee

Ruth Fairbanks, features

Yancy Ellington QB
Dredgers

Yancy Ellington walked off under his own power and did not come back. It is a knee, and it is the rest of the season. He reads Fragile on the card, which is exactly the bet everyone made.

He has 9,569 yards from scrimmage in five seasons, and 139 touchdowns. There was a 2,125-yard year in there. This is not it.

He turned twenty-seven this year. He is from Pinch, West Virginia. Around the building he has never been described as easy to coach. He was undrafted out of Cutler Bible, signed the Tuesday after for the minimum.

Dredgers, 7-9, and seventeen weeks gone. Nikolai Renfrow is in year four of it.

One more thing: he collects vinyl and is insufferable about it.

This feature ran in the paper in week 17 of 2012. The rest of the season is there too.
