The long way round: Sterling Threadgill goes for 159

Sterling Threadgill QB
Millwrights

I have been doing this long enough to have written off men like Sterling Threadgill, who was a track man who was talked into it by a coach who never let go. 159 yards is the league's way of saying nothing is settled. Two of them found the end zone, in game 7 of his season. It counts the same as anybody else's.

He has 11,196 yards from scrimmage in sixteen seasons, and 155 touchdowns. There was a 2,860-yard year in there. This is not it. He has done it in three buildings.

He turned thirty-seven this year. He is from Phoenix, Arizona. He says almost nothing and is listened to anyway. In another life he dug graves for a summer and says it was the best job he ever had.

Millwrights are 5-6-1 through thirteen weeks. Jarrett Sowerbutts is new. He is out of contract after this.

Carries a chess set on the road and beats everyone.
