Copperheads lose Duron Merritt to a knee

Wendell Sowerbutts, notebook

Duron Merritt RB
Copperheads

Duron Merritt will miss the rest of the season with a knee. That is his season.

The ledger, after three seasons: 2,861 yards, seventeen scores. There was a 1,040-yard year in there. This is not it.

He is twenty-four, out of New Antwerp, Wisconsin. Ask anybody: he would rather be almost anywhere else on a Tuesday. Nobody planned any of it. He was the second man taken at his position out of Northgate.

Copperheads, 4-7, and twelve weeks gone. Gravy Trubisky Jr. is in year four of it.

Merritt has a rule about not reading anything written about him, which he breaks.

This feature ran in the paper in week 12 of 2010. The rest of the season is there too.
