92 against the club that let him go

Grackles

Ezra Danforth Jr. put 92 on the Fighting Ostriches, who decided at some point that they could do without him. Everybody is very calm about it. He is unfailingly polite and completely unknowable, so nobody expects him to say much about it. Both clubs will insist there is nothing in it. There is always something in it.

Across seven seasons: 2,929 yards from scrimmage, twenty touchdowns, eighty-three games. This is the best of them. For three clubs.

He is thirty, out of Pinch, West Virginia. The route here: the second man taken at his position out of Governors College.

Grackles, 1-6, and seven weeks gone. Knuckles Yelverton is in year seven of it. The contract runs out in the spring.

One more thing: he carries a chess set on the road and beats everyone.

This feature ran in the paper in week 7 of 2009. The rest of the season is there too.
