Cricket Beale Jr. lost for the year to an Achilles

Cannoneers

Cricket Beale Jr.: Achilles, the rest of the season. That is his season.

2,819 yards over six seasons. Eleven touchdowns. Seventy-five games. There was a 1,487-yard year in there. This is not it. Two of those shirts belong to somebody else now.

Twenty-seven, and Detroit, Michigan before that. He says almost nothing and is listened to anyway. The route here: a basketball player until he was twenty, and it still shows. Before any of it he taught himself to weld from library books.

Cannoneers are 2-0 through two weeks. Mike Rowave is in year nine of it.

One more thing: he has never once been photographed smiling on a sideline.

This feature ran in the paper in week 2 of 2008. The rest of the season is there too.
