44 touchdowns and counting

Hal Vandergrift, veteran beat

Boarhounds

P. Northcutt has now thrown 44 touchdowns to Applesauce Okonkwo. Partnerships like that used to be how you described a team, before everybody started describing schemes. They have played 15 games together this season alone. One of them will leave first. They always do.

5,804 yards over six seasons. Forty-four touchdowns. 110 games. He got to 1,370 once. Not this time.

He turned twenty-seven this year. He is from Tannery Row, Maine. Around the building he is unfailingly polite and completely unknowable. The route here: drafted on a medical gamble that three clubs would not take.

The club is 8-7. Oscar Kearse is in year twenty-eight of it.

One more thing: he refuses to be taped by anybody but the same assistant trainer.

This feature ran in the paper in week 16 of 2008. The rest of the season is there too.
