Jinx Vinatieri was not supposed to be here

Wendell Sowerbutts, notebook

Jinx Vinatieri WR
Marauders

Jinx Vinatieri had 191 yards. He was a late bloomer who did not start a game until he was a college senior. Out of Bramble Hill, which sends one of these to the league about once a decade. It counts the same as anybody else's.

He has 10,667 yards from scrimmage in nine seasons, and sixty-eight touchdowns. He has never had a year like it. He has done it in two buildings.

Cork, Ireland is where he is from. He is thirty-one. Ask anybody: he is popular in a way that does not show up anywhere useful.

Marauders, 6-4, and eleven weeks gone. Donte Boyce is in year eight of it. The contract runs out in the spring.

One more thing: he is the last man off the field, every week, without exception.

This feature ran in the paper in week 11 of 2008. The rest of the season is there too.
