Julius Vance is 40 and still doing it

Hal Vandergrift, veteran beat

Julius Vance QB
Sentinels

Julius Vance is 40. He has played 259 professional games. He is averaging 12.4 a week and shows no sign of stopping, which is not how this usually goes. He reads Normal, which makes the mileage harder to explain, not easier. It ends for all of them. Not this year.

The ledger, after sixteen seasons: 22,695 yards, 320 scores. He got to 2,286 once. Not this time. He has done it in six buildings.

He is forty, out of Bitter Lake, Idaho. Around the building he is unfailingly polite and completely unknowable. Nobody planned any of it. He was signed off a practice squad in November and never gave the job back.

The club is 1-5. Hutch Ellington is in year seven of it. The contract runs out in the spring.

He learned to cook properly during a rehab year and now does it for the offensive line, and always has.
