The old man can still play

Hal Vandergrift, veteran beat

Devon Cannonbury QB
Roughnecks

Devon Cannonbury is 39 and averaging 14.7 a week. He reads Normal, which makes the mileage harder to explain, not easier. It ends for all of them. Not this year.

The ledger, after eighteen seasons: 28,683 yards, 436 scores. His best was 3,457. This is not that, yet. Five clubs have had him.

He is thirty-nine, out of Ashfork, Arizona. Ask anybody: he runs hot, and everybody has decided to live with it. The route here: signed off a practice squad in November and never gave the job back.

The club is 8-8. Mack Truckington is new. He is out of contract after this.

Cannonbury will not step on the painted logo at midfield.
