Mercy Odom beats the Fighting Ostriches to it

Marlene Ostrowski, column

Mercy Odom QB
Grackles

A club let Mercy Odom walk. He gained 88 yards on them. These two facts are being carefully kept apart in the postgame. Two of them found the end zone. Both clubs will insist there is nothing in it. There is always something in it.

He has 10,462 yards from scrimmage in sixteen seasons, and 141 touchdowns. His best was 2,491. This is not that, yet. For seven clubs.

Thirty-nine, and Newark, New Jersey before that. Ask anybody: he is the first man in the building most mornings. The route here: a late bloomer who did not start a game until he was a college senior.

Grackles, 4-8, and thirteen weeks gone. Hoot Jessup is new. The contract runs out in the spring.

Never takes his helmet off between series.
