Ibrahim Waddle finds it, in year 9

Wendell Sowerbutts, notebook

Ibrahim Waddle RB
Smelters

Ibrahim Waddle: 113 yards. He was found at a regional combine by a scout whose flight had been cancelled, which the record will now have to accommodate. Two of them found the end zone, in game 9 of his season. It counts the same as anybody else's.

1,054 yards over his first season. Twelve touchdowns. Seventeen games.

He is twenty-one, out of Detroit, Michigan. Around the building he is popular in a way that does not show up anywhere useful.

Smelters are 5-4 through ten weeks. Barney Grit is in year three of it.

One more thing: he has a rule about not reading anything written about him, which he breaks.

This feature ran in the paper in week 10 of 1998. The rest of the season is there too.
