Devon Cannonbury has 171 and a story

Wendell Sowerbutts, notebook

Devon Cannonbury QB
Nightshift

Devon Cannonbury had 171 yards. He was signed off a practice squad in November and never gave the job back. Two of them found the end zone, in game 1 of his season. It counts the same as anybody else's.

He has 26,809 yards from scrimmage in thirteen seasons, and 407 touchdowns. He got to 3,457 once. Not this time.

He is thirty-four, out of Ashfork, Arizona. Around the building he runs hot, and everybody has decided to live with it.

Nightshift, 1-0, and one weeks gone. Meatball Speight is in year twelve of it. The contract runs out in the spring.

One more thing: he will not step on the painted logo at midfield.

This feature ran in the paper in week 1 of 1997. The rest of the season is there too.
