Simeon Boxwell lost for the year to a meniscus

Marlene Ostrowski, column

Simeon Boxwell WR
Vulcans

Simeon Boxwell will miss the rest of the season with a meniscus. The backup inherits the job for now. Draft accordingly.

15,043 yards over eleven seasons. Seventy-seven touchdowns. 183 games. There was a 2,839-yard year in there. This is not it. For five clubs.

He is thirty-one, out of Muddy Creek, Kentucky. Ask anybody: he is popular in a way that does not show up anywhere useful. He was drafted late, on the strength of one game nobody else watched. Before any of it he worked the overnight shift at a grain elevator.

The club is 0-2. Percy Okonkwo is in year five of it. The contract runs out in the spring.

One more thing: he refuses to be taped by anybody but the same assistant trainer.

This feature ran in the paper in week 2 of 1990. The rest of the season is there too.
