The Roughnecks get a good look at Rhett Waddle

Gus Pemberton, sources say

Rhett Waddle QB
Boarhounds

Rhett Waddle had 119 yards against the Roughnecks, who used to employ him. Two of them found the end zone. He knew. They knew. Everybody knew.

Across nine seasons: 21,862 yards from scrimmage, 311 touchdowns, 165 games. His best was 2,915. This is not that, yet. For two clubs.

He turned thirty this year. He is from Sable, North Dakota. Ask anybody: he would rather be almost anywhere else on a Tuesday. The route here: the younger brother of a player nobody in this league remembers. Before any of it he fixed diesel engines with his uncle.

Boarhounds, 12-4, and seventeen weeks gone. Oscar Kearse is in year ten of it. There is one year left on the deal.

One more thing: he will not step on the painted logo at midfield.

This feature ran in the paper in week 17 of 1990. The rest of the season is there too.
