The Toboggans lose Jamarcus Vinatieri to an ACL

The Toboggans

Jamarcus Vinatieri is hurt again, and this time it is an ACL and the whole season. The backup inherits the job for now.

Across five seasons: 6,892 yards from scrimmage, fifty-six touchdowns, seventy-five games. He got to 2,358 once. Not this time. He has done it in two buildings.

Twenty-eight, and Ojo Caliente, New Mexico before that. Ask anybody: he says almost nothing and is listened to anyway. He was a mid-round pick who was the fourth-best player on his own college team.

The Toboggans are 7-5 through thirteen weeks. Terrell Thackeray is in year two of it. There is one year left on the deal.

Vinatieri never takes his helmet off between series.

This feature ran in the paper in week 13 of 1988. The rest of the season is there too.
