Lamar Klopstock was not supposed to be here

Chip Nutbeam, hot take

Lamar Klopstock QB
Copperheads

Lamar Klopstock was drafted late, on the strength of one game nobody else watched and just put up 125 YARDS. This is the best thing that has happened all season. He is 37, and he is popular in a way that does not show up anywhere useful. It counts the same as anybody else's.

The ledger, after eleven seasons: 21,250 yards, 333 scores. There was a 3,009-yard year in there. This is not it. He has done it in five buildings.

He is from Cork, Ireland.

Copperheads are 1-1 through two weeks. Percy Petty is in year six of it. He is out of contract after this.

He has never once been photographed smiling on a sideline, and always has.

This feature ran in the paper in week 2 of 1987. The rest of the season is there too.
